Engineering Phase II Groundbreaking
On
Friday, October 24, 2003, the Departments of Computer Science and
Electrical and Computer Engineering celebrated in a joint ceremony
the beginning of construction of their new facilities on Centennial
Campus.
The facility, funded by the generosity of
North Carolina taxpayers in a bond referendum, will provide over
200,000 square feet of much-needed space to the two growing departments.
Dean Nino Masnari welcomed guests to the ceremonies which began on the
top level of the Red Hat parking deck at the corner of Varsity
and Main Campus Drives. Legislative guests, University officials
and the faculty of both departments were recognized. Following
the Dean, Chancellor Marye Anne Fox addressed remarks to the assembled
audience. The keynote speech was given by Thomas R. McPherson,
Jr. (BSEE '76, MSEE '77). Following the Dean's closing remarks,
a reception for all guests was held in the Red Hat cafeteria facilities.
