Undergraduate Advising
When seeing your
advisor always bring a copy of your Academic Degree Audit
The Department of Electrical and Computer
Engineering provides undergraduate advising to help
you choose the classes needed to meet
the requirements of your desired degree(s).
Advising is done by the ECE Undergraduate Office twice
yearly. Advising for the spring semester is typically done from
mid-October
to early November and advising for the summer sessions and the
fall semester are done from mid-March to early April. All ECE
students receive an email with the exact dates as advising time
approaches.
Pre-registration advising is scheduled in the
following order:
- Athletes,
students with registered disabilities and Honors students
- Seniors
- Juniors
- All students
Your standing (and access date) is determined by the total number
of hours passed at the time of registration. Advising may be done online or in person. If you do not need to
speak with the Coordinator of Advising, Mrs.
Cecilia Townsend,
then you may simply submit an Advising
Planning Form electronically.
If approved,
your
Personal Identification Number (PIN) and access date to registration
will be emailed to you in about two business days. If there are
questions
about
your
online
submission, you will receive an email requesting further clarification.
If you do not understand your course requirements, in-person advising
is recommended.
To be advised in person, simply print
your Academic Degree Audit (ADA) and come to the
Undergraduate Office in 3006 Engineering Building II. When you arrive, pick
up an advising form (pink sheet) and fill out as much of it as
you can. When you have spoken with Mrs. Townsend and gotten her
signature, you may turn in your advising form and receive your
PIN number and access date. Advising is first-come, first-served
on a walk-in basis.
If you choose to change your planned courses after advising,
you must be re-advised in person and you must have your ADA with
you.
Advising Tips
- Check with the Undergraduate
Deadlines and Announcements page
often. Last minute changes in course requirements and course
notes will be listed there.
- Look ahead to the courses you expect to take next year and
be sure to get all the pre-requisites for them completed in time.
Failure in having the pre-requisite could result
in your being dropped from the course.
- Commit to the pre-registration plan agreed upon by you and
the Coordinator of Advising. The Department of Electrical and
Computer Engineering views this document as a contract. If you
need to deviate from your approved plan, notify the Coordinator
of Undergraduate Advising immediately to get the changes approved.
Unapproved changes may result in pre-requisite problems or delay
your graduation. Failure to follow the pre-registration plan
will not be grounds for late drop of a course.
- Take your courses for a letter grade. With the exception
of foreign language proficiency and physical education courses,
all courses you intend to count toward satisfying your graduation
requirements must be for a letter grade. All 200-level ECE and
Computer Science (CSC) courses must be
completed with a grade of "C-" or better.
- Matriculate (enter the department officially) before you take
ECE 211, 212 or 220.
If you have not matriculated and are able to do so, please see
Dr. Robbins in 118 Page Hall to matriculate.
- Keep your grade point average (GPA) high. ECE 200 and 206 have
a 2.3 GPA requirement. If you add either of these courses and
drop below the 2.3 GPA requirement you will be dropped from the
course.
