ACM-AITP/WiCS Geek-a-Thon

LocationCentennial Campus Middle School
Start Date October 5, 2007 9:00 AM
End Date October 7, 2007 5:00 PM

Two student organizations in the Department of Computer Science (ACM-AITP and WiCS) are organizing a GeekAThon -- one of several events to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Department of Computer Science at N.C. State.

A GeekAThon is a marathon weekend-long event to refurbish computers and distribute them to middle school students who have no computers in their homes. There have been 9 previous GeekAThons in the area but this is the first by NCSU volunteers.  We invite you to signup for one or more shifts (a shift is 4 hours) on Oct 5, 6, or 7.  You will receive a cool tshirt (with geek on the front) and free food. And you will be doing a great service.

Don't worry about not having experience refurbishing computers...it will be an assembly-line process (we plan to refurbish 200 computers in three days) and there will be experienced folks around to show you the process for your table.

The event will be held at the Centennial Campus Middle School cafeteria (map/directions are on the GeekAThon website below -- the CCMS adjoins Centennial Campus).  There will be lots of non-geek tasks as well...including working on the giving part called the GiveAThon (held at the GeekAThon on Sat and Sun afternoon).
