Conte Elected Chair of the ACM Special Interest Group on Microarchitecture

Jul 26, 2005

Dr. Thomas M. Conte, professor of electrical and computer engineering and director of the Center for Embedded Systems Research at North Carolina State University, has been elected chair of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group on Microarchitecture (SIGMICRO) for a three-year term.

The ACM SIGMICRO promotes the advancement of computer microarchitecture with special emphasis on “features permitting instruction-level parallelism and their related implications on compiler design.” The group provides several forums for disseminating information, including an online newsletter and conferences such as the annual MICRO conference.

Conte also chairs the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Microprogramming and Microarchitecture. He is editor in chief of the Journal of Instruction-Level Parallelism and is as an associate editor of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Transactions on Embedded Computer Systems and ACM Transactions on Architecture and Compiler Optimization.

Conte received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1992. He joined the NC State faculty in 1995.
