Admissions Procedure

NCSU is committed to high quality graduate education. The ECE Department offers a wide range of courses that cover advanced topics in the electrical, computer and network engineering fields. The courses cover both applied and theoretical aspects of engineering. A major part of this commitment is producing world class research results and teaching students how to achieve such results. Examples of this work can be found on most faculty websites. We expect our applicants to understand that our goal is to produce excellent graduates who can make a positive impact on the world after leaving NC State.

Since graduate degrees are more specialized than baccalaureate degrees, prospective graduate students are expected to have an area of interest in mind when they apply for admission to the department. Applicants are required to fill out our online area of interest form. This information is used to determine which faculty will review the applications. It is not possible to guarantee that any particular faculty member reviews a particular application. The faculty associated with the various research areas can be found via the faculty by field web page.

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NC State University. Please follow these steps to apply for admission to the Graduate Program:

  1. Fill out the online application at the Graduate School website.
We recommend that you use the online submission of your personal statement and allow your references to submit their evaluations online. This form will require your last name and 9-digit NCSU Student ID or 6-digit Apply Yourself ID. The information you provide to GradWatch must exactly match the information on your application.
