Virtual Colonoscopy

In this study, a high resolution CT scan is used to acquire a 3-D images of the body. Image analysis algorithms are used to identify the colon and remove all parts of the image except the colon wall. Then, a rendering algorithm allows the viewer to position a viewpoint anywhere in the virtual 3-D space and obtain the view from that point. By moving the viewpoint with a mouse, the appearance of "flying" through the colon is derived.

To view an animation of such a flight, click here. Caution! This is a LARGE mpeg movie. Consider whether you want to take the time right now to transfer so much data.
