May 8, 2006MRS Graduate Student Award

Rashmi Jha, a graduate student in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has received the prestigious Graduate Student Award at Materials Research Society, Spring Meeting in San Francisco this year. The award is presented to graduate students for excellence in research. Rashmi is a student of Prof. Veena Misra and is conducting research in advanced metal gate electrodes for nano-scale silicon devices. Rashmi is also a recipient of two year fellowship from Applied Materials to conduct research in advanced CMOS devices.

August 15, 2005Guru Mathur received Best Student Paper Award at IEEE conference on Nanotechnology

Guru Mathur, a graduate student working with Dr. Veena Misra (Associate professor in the department of ECE), received the Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE-NANO 2005, the 5th IEEE conference on Nanotechnology held in Nagoya, Japan between July 11 and 15, 2005, for his paper titled "Threshold Voltage Assisted Reduction of Molecules in Hybrid Silicon/Molecular Memory Devices". Srivardhan Gowda and Dr. Veena Misra are co-authors of this paper.

Guru Mathur's research is in the area of Molecular Electronics, which is a cross-disciplinary effort between Dr. Misra, Dr. Lindsey (Dept. of Chemistry, NCSU), Dr. Bocian (Dept. of Chemistry, UCR) and Zettacore, Inc. This work is based on information storage in organic molecules for next generation Flash and DRAM memory devices. The use of organic molecules in a CMOS platform has several key advantages including scalability to molecular dimensions, synthetic tunability of molecules to acheive desired electronic properties, low power, multiple state memory device and ease of integration with existing CMOS processes. The scientists in this project have already demonstrated that organic molecules indeed have memory functionality.

August 15, 2005Gowda Wins 2005-2006 Texas Instruments Graduate Fellowship

Texas Instruments is pleased to announce that Mr. Srivardhan Gowda is the recipient of the 2005-2006 Texas Instruments Graduate Fellowship for Leadership in Nanoelectronics. Mr. Gowda is a student of Prof. Veena Misra. His graduate research work is in the area of Molecular Electronics which is a cross-disciplinary effort between Dr. Misra, Dr. Lindsey (Dept. of chemistry, NCSU), Dr. Bocian (Dept. of chemistry, UCR) and Zettacore, Inc. His Ph.D. thesis deals with fabrication, characterization and modeling of hybrid silicon/molecular devices for memory applications. He plans to graduate in 2006.

The Texas Instruments Graduate Fellowship for Leadership in Nanoelectronics is awarded by Texas Instruments' Silicon Technology Development (SiTD) organization. SiTD established the NCSU fellowship in 2004 as part of its effort to encourage and support graduate work in Nanoelectronics. This fellowship underscores TI's commitment to supporting graduate research within the country's top research intensive universities.
