Golden Solder Competition Winner Announced

May 13, 2010

Dr. Ozturk (left) and William Staedler (right) William Staedler, a sophomore in Electrical Engineering has won this semester’s golden solder competition in ECE 200 Introduction to Signals, Circuits and Systems, with his device detecting infrared light.

His project was entitled “The big brother is watching”.

The other participants in this year’s competition were Alex Kubacki, Sam Callaway, Christian Williams and Ksenia Sedova.  Students entering the golden solder competition either design their own circuits or implement circuits that they can analyze using the knowledge they acquired in ECE 200.

The participants are expected to solder their components on PC boards and place them in enclosures to achieve a professional look.  The competitors demonstrate their working projects in front of the class and the ECE 200 students vote to choose the winner.

The winner of the competition receives a GOLDEN soldering iron.
