Mehmet Ozturk Working Under Three-Year Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) Grant

November 03, 2006

In the early 1980’s, semiconductor research was falling by the wayside in American industry, while Japanese corporations made incredible gains in the computer chip industry.  In order to combat these conditions, several companies such as IBM, Hewlett Packard, and Intel banded established a research minded cooperation called Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC).

Since its establishment, SRC has watched over many cutting-edge projects in the semiconductor field while receiving over $1 billion in government grants.  Today, SRC is beginning to make connections worldwide while gearing up to be a major player in the next stage of semiconductor development.

In SRC's 24 year history of funding universities, including NC State University and Duke, North Carolina institutions have received about $38 million of the $1 billion dispersed.

NC State engineering professor, Mehmet Ozturk and a graduate are currently working under a three-year grant, worth $120,000 annually. The grant is being used to further research in making tiny silicon transistors even smaller and faster.
