Best Paper Award at IEEE GLOBECOM
December 04, 2006
Mr Ming Zhao, Ph.D. student in ECE working with Dr. Wenye Wang (Assistant Professor in the department of ECE), received the Best Paper Award in the category of Communication Networks at the IEEE GLOBECOM 2006, holed in San Francisco, CA between Nov. 27 to Dec. 1, 2006, for his paper titled "A Novel Semi-Markov Mobility Model for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks."
In this paper, Dr. Wang and her student proposed a novel mobility model that eliminates well-known shortcomings in existing models and inherits steady state properties of a variety of sythestic mobility models. Therefore, their model can be a promising benchmark for analytical study and simulations of mobile wireless networks.
Their paper was first nominated by the Symposimum on "Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks Towards Anytime Anywhere Internetworking" out of 20 technical sessions. After a second-round competition, their paper was ranked No.1 among three finalists in the category of Communication Networks that includes three large symposiums spanning over 70 technical sessions. The final winners are selected based on Award Committee reviews that include both the manuscript evalaution and presentation review on-site.
