Edward E. Hood, Claude E. McKinney and Bryce R. Younts will be presented the Watauga Medals, the university's highest nonacademic honor, at the Founders' Day dinner March 8 at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh. The dinner commemorates the 117th anniversary of the founding of NCSU, in 1887. Hood served the university as a member of the board of trustees and of numerous development and alumni boards. McKinney, professor and dean emeritus of the College of Design, served as assistant to the chancellor for Centennial Campus development from 1984 to 2000 and is recognized as one of the chief architects of the 1,334-acre technology park's success. Younts was the university's director for alumni relations from 1966 to 1992.
Linda D. Krute, director of distance education for the College of Engineering, has received the Joseph M. Biedenbach Distinguished Service Award from the American Society for Engineering Education. Krute was honored for her "outstanding service to continuing professional development of engineers." As part of her duties, Krute also directs the Engineering Online program.
