Normal Manuscript Creation Process

This process should proceed, etc... Mention draft 0.0, 0.1, 1.0, 1.2,

"Zero" Draft

This draft has an emphasis on the story and focus of the manuscript, not the details. Should contain the best (initial) try of the following:

  • tentative title(s)
  • full abstract
  • full outline
  • detailed listing of the contents of figures

First Draft - Emphasize "Contents"

This draft has an emphasis on content. The focus should be on the overall structure and reasoning of the manuscript, with a particular view toward identifying and supporting the unique contribution of this particular work. Should contain the best draft of following:

  • All figures
  • more here

Second Draft - Emphasize "Formatting"

This draft has an emphasis on formatting. The focus should be on the manuscript's red line of logic, as well as transitions (between sections, paragraphs, thoughts, etc). By the end of this draft, the

  • the formatting should be exactly what is required by the journal guidelines for submission,
  • the introduction/background text should be written in good form with all key citations, and
  • the results/discussion should be written and agreed upon by all co-authors.

Final Draft - Emphasize "Style"

This draft has an emphasis on style. The focus should be on

  • detailed word-smithing,
  • finalizing the abstract,
  • confirming the references, and
  • finalizing the results/discussion.
