OLEG:AboutFrom OLEG
Brief HistoryOLEG was founded in the fall of 2004 as Dr. Michael Escuti established his new academic research program within NC State University as a green Assistant Professor within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. The founding graduate student members were Brandon Conover, Chulwoo Oh, Ravi Komanduri, and Mike Jones; Alan Rogers was our sole, brave, undergraduate researcher at the time. Our research is multidisciplinary, and focuses broadly on studying and developing phenomena related to how materials can control light, and how light can control materials, with an emphasis on topics within soft-condensed matter. As of 2008, we are grateful to acknowledge prime funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL), the NCSU Kenan Institute, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), often through excellent collaborations with Boulder Nonlinear Systems, the University of Florida, and the University of Central Florida. Furthermore, the Raleigh-based startup company ImagineOptix has been a close partner and is commercializing portions of OLEG's polarization grating technologies for ultra-efficient (polarizer-free) liquid crystal microdisplays for projector systems.
