Wideband Optical FDTD Simulator

Introduction

WOLFSIM is an Open-Source software package, developed by OLEG at NCSU, for numerical modeling of electromagnetic systems, especially 1D and 2D periodic structures in anisotropic media. WOLFSIM provides the wideband spectral response (near-field and far-field) from a single simulation of one period of the structure. A two-dimensional spatial grid is combined with a full three-dimensional permittivity tensor to allow for "2D+" simulation. Oblique source incidence is explicitly incorporated using a modified split-field FDTD method. A full description of the original version of this package was published in Optics Express:

C. Oh and M. J. Escuti, "Time-domain analysis of periodic anisotropic media at oblique incidence: an efficient FDTD implementation," Opt. Express 14, pp. 11870-11884 (2006). (Online Abstract)

WOLFSIM was initiated by a graduate student Chulwoo Oh in the Opto-electronics and Lightwave Engineering Group (OLEG) directed by Dr. Michael Escuti at NC State University. The current version of WOLFSIM was developed by undergraduate student Patrick Bowen in OLEG. The algorithm was reworked to handle dichroic as well as birefrengent materials. Current research projects are expanding WOLFSIM to 3-D and to handle anisotropically dispersive materials. We must mention that WOLFSIM is a software tool for university research purpose and the current version of WOLFSIM is not final and still being developed in the spirit of Open Source. We are grateful to your suggestions for improvement of WOLFSIM.

Download

WOLFSIM package is now available to download at SourceForge.net!!!

Go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/wolfsim/

The package is distributed as a zipped file ("WOLFSIM.zip"), which contains the main code ("WOLFSIM.c") and libraries ("*.h"). In addition, the user manual and the installation guide are available to download in PDF format.

Since WOLFSIM is still developing, only the latest version will be available on the Web. Current version of WOLFSIM is Version 2.0.0 (Version 2.0.1 without HDF5). You may contact us to obtain the previous versions.
