Richard Shryock earned BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. He then began a 25 year career at IBM which spanned several product divisions, two locations, and several engineering, planning, and management positions. He began his career in industrial robotics and then transitioned into the personal and mobile computing areas, eventually working primarily in system software development. Richard has worked extensively as a member or leader of global product development teams that have included IBM development and research personnel as well as partner and supplier organizations. In the middle of his IBM tenure, he was sponsored by IBM to return to school at the MIT Sloan School of Management to earn a second MS degree in the Management of Technology. Following the program at MIT, Richard moved into management and staff leadership roles focused on business development, program management, strategic technology planning, and system architecture.
After leaving IBM, Richard returned to school at North Carolina State University, earning a Certificate in Computer Programming. Following a 2 year sabbatical, he began a second career in Engineering Education at NC State as an undergraduate academic advisor and lecturer. He then transitioned into his current position as Associate Director of Distance Education Programs for the College of Engineering. In this role, he is responsible for the administration of online engineering graduate programs and the primary liaison with university and external technology groups related to the production and delivery of online engineering courses.
